Terrible management and maintenance
Pros
- Sun-filled apartment on the corner of York Ave and East 81 street - Super close to Carl Shurz park and the east river esplanade - M15+ stop is right at the corner of York and First - super walkable to so much - The street is sweet, lots of gingko trees and homemade, colorful birdhouses (there's a pandemic story behind that) - Free monthly pest control
Cons
- The management and maintenance is unbearable - I believe these units should technically be rent-stabilized, I requested a report and basically when this management took over in 2013, they just stopped filing for re-certification - The heat stops working at least 1-2 times per year, even in the dead of winter. This can last for days, its even lasted for a week - It is incredibly poorly maintained in general - Emails to management require multiple follow-ups, management is rude and short - There are mice and cockroaches - The garbage is in a little closet on the ground floor, it is tiny, and so it always is overfilled, even to the point that a garbage bag will fall out when you open the door - They really just do NOT care about your safety and comfort - The kitchenettes only have a mini fridge and a stovetop. It's kind of impossible to cook (but this is NYC?)
Advice to the owners
I loved this area, but had to move out of here after years. I couldn't take the heat not working anymore. It is clearly the "evil stepchild" of the management's properties. Patch up the holes that the mice get through from the garbage room and set up some external garbage access. Then you could utilize that tiny closet for something like cleaning supplies. Also, its really nice to be able to cook now.
