It's a gorgeous pre-war buidling with large rooms, high ceilings and a phenominal building staff

Cons

The owners and management don't seem to care that much about the building. They make everything difficult for the staff, who works their asses off.

Advice to the owners

Give a shit! You have a beautiful building with lovely tenants and a staff that goes above and beyond. Fix the stuff that brakes in a timely manner!

It's just OK. They may say it's a doorman building, but it isn't. Anyone can just walk in. Also, it's not a spotless building. So, I guess it just depends on what rent they are asking.

I've live here 40 years and the neighbors have always been wonderful. However, it's one of the OLDEST residential buildings on the Upper West Side, and it has its plumbing problems. Originally designed and built by McKim, Mead, and Stanford White. The superindent, the handy men, the doormen, people who deal with this antique, are very good.

I would ask the following questions before moving in: Does the apt have hot & cold water in the kitchen? How often does the elevator break and how long does it take to fix it? I would NOT sign a lease until you thoroughly inspect every aspect of your apt…do the windows close properly? Do all the closet doors close? And lastly, if you can afford it I’d recommend looking elsewhere… you can probably get one a comparably priced apt in a better run building. The landlords don’t give a shit about the building even though the staff really does.

THere are no amenities. The building is dirty. It is not a luxury building. The "doorman" is not a doorman. Anyone can walk in. There is no "doorman" after 10 pm (or earlier sometimes).
