226A Madison: good size, beautiful neighborhood, DONT BE FOOLED
Pros
The landlord is super nice and the building is small and it’s located around some good shops and the streets are tree lined.
Cons
After moving in, we were informed that at some time long ago, the building partially collapsed and was leaning against the other buildings in the small row of four real houses built in 2000. The other buildings have fixed themselves up, but this one has not and is slowly sinking into the ground. The stairs in the stairwell are separated from the wall and wobble and bounce with every step going up in a way that seems dangerous, and in the downstairs entrance, the entire ceiling is separated from the wall from a crack that is slowly building and growing. All of the sinks in the toilets in the apartment on the top floor leak into the apartment on the second floor, which causes a lot of problems and prolonged problems for everyone in the building. Also, when there have been moments of pest control, it’s not been at all as there have been times where hundreds of thousands of cockroaches have swarmed the common area and come up into our apartment many times because of the owners’ neglect. When you walk through the apartment, the whole building bounces and shifts up and down as the floorboards are rotting beneath due to long-term water damage neglect. Unfortunately, the street is also just sort of an active street. There were three shootings on the street over the course of our lease, so the police presence was very active.
Advice to the owners
