Great Building, VACANT OWNERSHIP
Pros
Lovely neighborhood. Most neighbors super nice. Laundry in basement.
Cons
To start, the owners of the building are vacant. To them, you are just income and they will get to your problem whenever they feel like it. Rodent hole was discovered behind our frigid a year ago. It reminds and they will not take care of it. I unfinished ceiling and broken flooring. I but in a request recently to the building super, (who does not live in the building,) and they are waiting for the owners to approve they can come and look at the issues. The radiators have been painted over. So in the winter months when the heat gets turned on it is just on. Or off. There is no way to control it from the radiators. And it can get stifling. And again it’s only on or off. So you can have them come and shut it off but then you’ll be freezing. Or on and no control of the heat. It is a non-smoking building, yet our neighbors above and below us smoke. One time I had a backed up the sink and couldn’t do any dishes. This was at the height of Covid and we were cooking and eating from home. I was told somebody would be there in a week to handle my problem. That’s a week of takeout, dirty dishes, and putrid smell permeating the kitchen and apartment. I ended up handling the problem myself. The owners will do nothing for their tenants. I’ve never even met them. If you move there and if you have any problems, be prepared to take care of them yourself and not be reimbursed or let it be taken off of rent.
Advice to the owners
If you’re going to own a building, be owners. Be responsive, take care of your tenants, and be responsible and responsive.
