Nice home, no complaints
Pros
Responsive landlord, cleans hallways, strict about garbage
Cons
Some windows need to be replaced, fridge needs new molding
Lease not renewed after 3 years
Pros
-Very big rooms -Big kitchen - lots of cabinets, big fridge -Lots of light in front and back rooms -2 bathrooms in first floor unit -Lots of closet space -Location is great -Low price compared to others 3 bed/2 bath in area
Cons
- One of the landlords (husband) is out of the country half of the year, the other (wife) lives there and has simply blamed decisions on her husband when they have to be made (ex: not renewing my lease after telling me I have been a great tenant for 3 years) - -The landlord lives below you and while they are helpful at times, they can also be non-responsive at others and not the best listeners nor very empathetic to your concerns. Ex: she threatened to not renew my lease in July 2024 because my roommates steps were 'too loud' for her above her own bedroom in the basement. I talked to my roommate about getting a rug, but before we could do that my landlord said she was not going to renew the lease because her husband told her so, end of story. I asked if it was for the same reason re: floors, and she insisted no, but admitted to not answering my messages about my roommate getting a rug to try and work with her and address the concern. - Heat has been OK in my unit on the first floor, but units above us have complained of it being freezing in the winter. One set of neighbors finally moved out because they got so fed up of the landlord insisting the heat was fine while they had proof of how unacceptably cold it was. -The middle room gets close to no light. If you live in with 3 total people, you will get no light in your living space. -The front room is very small and gets lots of noise living across from a small park/school. I have used it as an office. -No modern amenities if you care about those (no dishwasher, no laundry in building or unit, no AC)
Advice to the owners
Respond to texts, be empathetic to your tenants concerns, and do not talk down to them when they are opening up to you about concerns. Install carpeting in the room above you and issue quiet hours. Do not threaten to not renew leases for someone walking in the bedroom they are paying for.
