Andrew Ovis: Nightmare landlord.
Pros
Building is clean, water pressure good, no pests/rodents. neighbors are quiet, except for the landlord that you can hear through the floors and the cat you can hear run around upstairs
Cons
Absolute nightmare of a landlord. Lies about how wonderful of a landlord he is and how tenants stay forever…Goes through your trash, scrutinizes you on his way of recycling (not nyc standard), ease drops on personal conversations that you have within your apartment because the floorboards are very thin between all floors. He’s intrusive and overbearing, if you enjoy being lectured by your landlord on a near-daily basis without getting a word in, then he’s your guy. Promises of repairs turn into sloppy, patchwork fixes at best. To top it off, he’ll look for excuses to keep your security deposit and funnel it into more cheap renovations for the next tenant. Save yourself the headache.
Advice to the owners
Stop eavesdropping on your tenants. We pay for a well-maintained apartment and the right to peace and privacy—your behavior is inappropriate and intrusive. No one wants to listen to you ramble for an hour about something that could be said in two minutes. Fix the floorboards, properly maintain the apartment, and honor the lease terms on the security deposit instead of making excuses and stealing from tenants. Learn to recognize which tenants want conversation and which only want a professional, businesslike relationship. Not everyone needs to be your friend.
