Problems with management
Pros
Location, skylight, trash management
Cons
There is central a/c but it broke every summer in the 4 years I lived there. There was a cockroach problem which would get better but occasionally worse. Leaks were left unfixed. Management is responsive but slow. They will not communicate with you after hours or on the weekends and they leave the office at like 3 pm. My biggest complaint is that at some point during living there, they began reporting rent payments to the credit bureaus. This was not an issue for me as I paid my rent on time every month. However, once I moved out, they forgot to remove me from their system and reported that I was late on payment for two months even though my lease ended and I moved out on good terms. This tanked my credit score and still, months later I am going back and forth with the credit reporting company and TransUnion in an attempt to repair my credit. There was an electrical issue I don’t fully understand which was repaired with what seemed to be sort of a temporary fix with cables coming through a hole cut in the wall and it was never given a more permanent solution at the time of me moving out. While I lived in the apartment for 4 years, I had several room mates come and go. When my second batch of roommates moved in, they demanded each pay a “lease transfer fee” in the completely random amount of $355. They were unable to explain to me what this fee was for, as no lease was being transferred. The lease ended and a new lease was being drawn up. I believe this was an attempt to get a broker’s fee out of us even though no broker was involved and I found the room mates myself.
Advice to the owners
Your small mistakes can have huge effects on people’s lives. Thankfully I had already secured a new apartment before this credit score problem presented itself, but if I hadn’t I would have a very difficult time renting right now as my credit has been ruined at no fault of my own.
