Nice place management is terrible though.
Pros
The new renovations
Cons
No elevator and it’s a walk up
Advice to the owners
Drop the price on the units rooms are kind of small
Lease cut short because of Building Fire
Pros
I enjoyed my time renting at 7 Ridgewood. The unit was nice with tall ceilings and it felt very open. Ideally, I would have liked to stay in the unit for more than 4 months. Jay was responsive as well. There was extra storage in the basement which worked out great.
Cons
The main issue with this building was that there was no soundproofing. You could hear the neighbors clearly - fighting, screaming, laughing you name it. It truly did not bother me unless it was at night. There were some nights when I couldn't sleep because of the noise. The worst part about living here was one of the tenants had the audacity to bbq on the roof (which is illegal) thus causing a building fire and displacing all of the tenants in the building. The worst part about this is that fire was completely preventable. I could've visualized myself living in this building for a while and then this happened. The response of the landlord to the fire was mediorce. He did not notify the tenants of his decision (to keep the building and renovate, demolish it, keep lease until reno's are over, etc) until 5 days after the incident. When you have over 20 people that have been displaced you think the landlord would come to a conclusion sooner but noooooo. The pros (if you can call it that): the landlord agreed to cancel our lease plus we were refunded half of the month's rent and gave our security deposit back (which is legally required). They set us up with another realtor who helps out with the rest of their properties but they were determined to raise the rent on this building's tenants if they chose to remain with the management company and the units they had available were smaller than these. (which is horrible considering we all went through a fire).
Advice to the owners
Soundproof the building Fix the roof (obviously post-fire but actually make it nice rather than scattered and broken tile and definitely not safe fencing) Ensure that no one starts a fire on the roof. Include a fire extinguisher near the roof entrance.
