3 family apartment building
Pros
I lived here for 3 years. No roaches, had mice though. The landlords were pretty responsive in terms of pest control, and had them come in and spray and lay traps. Lived in a two bedroom duplex that we turned into a three-bedroom. Backyard, also washer/dryer in building. No dishwasher. Great apartment overall! On the same block as the YMCA, had two grocery stores, one on either end of the block. Same block as a fire station, so it felt safe. Right between the Bedford-Nostrand G and the Nostrand AC. Two parking spaces out front, in case tenants have cars,
Cons
The landlords refused to resign the lease because they wanted to "renovate" (aka do repairs we had asked them to do), and they decided to increase the rent by $1500. We also got a notice from the city that they wanted to do an inspection, because they got an anonymous tip for an illegal tenant in the basement -- when the landlords knew the basement was turned into a bedroom. A tenant lawyer we spoke with said it was probably the landlords who told the city, so that the tenant in the basement was forced to leave. Our apartment was definitely in the best condition -- went to the apartments on the other floors, and they were depressing (visibly stained and patched walls, dirty bathrooms with dirty grout, etc.)
Fine for a first apartment
Pros
Had balcony which was nice. Lots of floor space inside.
Cons
Extremely thin walls. You will hear a lot of what happens in the apartment above you
