Don't Run, Fly Away From The Brooklyner
Pros
None that are worth mentioning.
Cons
I moved into The Brooklyner, Brooklyn, NY, 11201 exactly four months ago today and I highly recommend anyone considering this apartment complex to RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN away from this building. My rent is $4117.00 monthly for a one-bedroom apartment. I pay my rent early every month and I am never late. The Brooklyner is 55 stories tall, has 490 apartments and 5 maintenance staff which is ridiculous!!! The first day, when I went to pick up the apartment keys, the Community Manager tried to provoke me by putting his hands in my face. I also filled out a apartment checklist detailing what was wrong with my apartment on my initial inspection. I had to return the form within three days which I did. The apartment front door locks were hard to open. Then it seemed like someone was entering my apartment when I was not there, so naturally I did not move my belongings into the apartment, which cost me money because I had to pay extra Self-Storage fees for my ersonal property. I requested that they change the locks, both main lock and deadbolt lock. The Community Managers came up with all kinds of excuses, even after I told them someone had a key and was entering my apartment when I was not home. It took ONE MONTH for Maintenance to replace the main lock and deadbolt locks. The kitchen had bugs under the sink, so I sprayed insecticide throughout the entire apartment. The kitchen sink had a faucet leak so I could not prepare my own food for ONE MONTH which cost me more money because I had to eat out. There are no screens on any of the windows so you cannot get any fresh air without letting flying and crawling insects into the apartment. Management said I would have to buy my own screens. The way the windows are built, it is very expensive to hang curtains or drapes. One of the bedroom windows is stuck and it took two maintenance men to open it. I told them to close the window because I am a Senior Citizen and I don't have the strength to open it constantly; there are no screens on the window and because Winter season is coming. The bathroom has a electric heater built into the wall. Heater did not work because it is burnt out. I requested a new one and Management said that it is not Winter yet so they did not want to replace it. I pay for all electricity in the apartment including the bathroom heater, so if I want to get out of the shower into a warm bathroom that is my right regardless of the season. Bathroom toilet tank was filthy inside. I asked management to replace it. Four months have passed and they have done nothing about it even though I listed it on the Apartment checklist. I had to put Clorox Toilet Tank disinfecting tablets in the tank to kill all the mold and bacteria growing in the toilet tank and I still do this monthly. Bathroom sink stopper was not holding water in the sink. It took them two weeks to come and pop out the sink stopper which took maintenance less than one minute to do. There are no security cameras on the individual floors (55 floors) nor are there any in the emergency stairwells. The Maintenance Department uses an AI (Artificial Intelligence) system named Ella instead of a Human to receive your apartment issues. AI Ella maintenance system DOES NOT WORK!!! Heat? What heat!!! October 1st, 2026 has come and gone and still NO HEAT!!! I pay for Heat too!!! I have two McQuay electric combination Cooling and Heating units installed in the apatment. One in the living room and one in the bedroom. Like the old saying goes, "Where's The Heat!!! What a joke this place is!!! I have had the Community Manager and certain Maintenance staff stalk me, sexually harass me, follow me around, photograph/videotape me in the surrounding neighborhood as well as in the building itself. If you value your Family's Safety and your Sanity, Don't Run, Fly Away From The Brooklyner.
Advice to the owners
You Must do better by your tenants!!!
decent high rise apartment, somewhat poor management
Pros
- decent location with lots of trains - generally clean - great staff - “acceptable” prices for nyc standard
Cons
- heating availability very inconsistent during the winter - water shuts off with very little notice sometimes - elevators broken more than they should - my friend who referred me to the building never got his referral bonus (which isn’t much to begin with)
Advice to the owners
make the necessities like heat/water supply better
