Review Summary for 42-61 Hunter Street
Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews for 42-61 Hunter Street, Queens highlight a desirable location and spacious apartments as major positives. Tenants appreciate quiet surroundings and some responsiveness from management. However, multiple reviews point to significant issues with heating systems, inefficient hot water, and high utility bills. Garbage management is inconsistent and cleanliness in common areas sometimes suffers due to commercial tenant misuse. Management responsiveness is described as variable, with some citing slow or inadequate repairs and privacy concerns. Despite a friendly neighborhood atmosphere, persistent maintenance delays and infrastructure problems are common complaints, suggesting improvements in upkeep and management communication are needed for a better living experience.

Great location and good value
Former Tenant
Pros:
I like that this is a small building with only a couple of units. My unit faces the hotel, and it's quieter than the ones facing the street.
I never had problems reaching out to the owners to request maintenance or report something. They've always been very responsive.
The apartment is spacious, and the location is unmatched.
Cons:
There's no doorman, so sometimes the delivery drivers can't get in to deliver packages.
The tea shop downstairs uses the garbage room in the basement and sometimes makes a mess, leaving trails of smeared garbage across the hallway and the elevator that remains uncleaned for days.
Utility bills are extremely high ($400+ with moderate usage).

Former Tenant
Pros:
Location is great, spacious apartment.
Cons:
Hot water sucks, doesn't get past lukewarm and doesn't stay hot. Winters are freezing because the management didn't let us take out the wall AC units because they wanted to keep them as back up in case the HVAC one fails, but the wall units don't even work. Gas/electric bills are extremely high. Paid over $400 some months. Garbage chute never worked.
