Large Railroad Apartment
Pros
My apartment was large for a railroad with lots of storage. It was unrennovated which was my preference with some charming details. Located in between the L and the M but not that close to either. Grocery store near by, good selection or restaurants and fruit stand style groceries on fresh pond road. Owner is a longtime resident of the neighborhood who owns a business on the block. He's very easy to find especially if something urgent goes wrong, such as a lockout. He had an old school approach and seemed family oriented. Downstairs neighbor is a long time tenant and very nice.
Cons
Serious mouse problem, which I noticed the first day I moved in. Owner filled holes himself and hired an exterminator who just inspected and gave me glue traps. Hot water was dangerously hot when I first moved in, and very unreliable (often too cold to shower) for about a year before I left. I called for repair numerous times but the landlord would find a way to dismiss the issue. The hot water finally was fixed a few weeks before I moved.
