Cons

Make up facade, to hide serious hazard - including electrical mayhem

Pros

The location is great, most neighbors friendly, and the doormen team quite helpful.

Cons

I moved to this apartment believing this was a newly renovated building, securing my apartment while some construction was still in place under the premise that there was nothing on the same level under the price range, pushed to secure this unit before was too late. Did not took long for the issues begin, as my bathroom had a strange leak that made no sense, considering the complex revamp this building went through. I had a friend that used to live in this location prior the renovation --that was forced to leave the building once the new owner was ready to change everything-- So I can say as a fact that the changes on each apartment was structural, revamping the set up of almost every apartment, what I saw as a great improvement, but getting puzzled with this leak, because it became a serious issue in a short period of time, while doesn't appear to have any connection with the units above my apartment. I contacted the management several times, being treated as a crazy women, taking almost two months to have someone coming to fix the problem - without sharing what really was the cause of this problem. Not much later, I started to have some issues with the electrical, as out of blue some outlets became irresponsive, and resuming the work without any logical reason, what at first I believe could be related to the work that was still In place for the building. By chance, an electrician friend was visiting me one time when this issue happened, so he offered to take a look on the fuse box. He was shocked with the state the electrical was set on my apartment, as he defined the work as a chaotic time bomb that could be triggered at any moment, Wasn't only a matter of the setup that did not followed the code, but he noticed more than one hot wire connected to the box but without being placed on outlets, or anything, being left hanging inside the wall. That was when I started looking for the permits taken for this renovation - better saying the lack of permits held during the entire process, as the permit granted for the work executed on this building promoted only cosmetic restoration of apartments, instead the complete revamp that really took place. This finding made me scared of continue living in this premise, as I became aware that other tenants had similar problems, promoting this was generalized hazard. For my surprise, the management company was aware of the issues but had no interest fixing the problem. Recently I bumped into one of my previous neighbors, and he mentioned that the building seems to have frequent inspections on the electrical by the city - and failing on every visit - making this whole case and astonishing evidence of the disrespect tenants face in this city, independent of the abusive cost of securing a home.

Advice to the owners

After everything I experienced and found about this building my question is if this is a matter being cheap and disregarding the risks involved to the hazard condition you held your tenants, or if the is actually some kind of strategy to benefit from chaos on some really dark way.
