Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews of properties managed by Simon Dushinsky illustrate a mixed tenant experience. While some residents appreciate decent amenities, cleanliness, and friendly staff, numerous complaints arise regarding slow management responsiveness and maintenance issues. Noise levels often disrupt peace, and several tenants report pest problems and deteriorating building conditions. Many reviews suggest a need for improved communication and enhanced management presence to foster a safer and more responsive living environment. Overall, potential renters should weigh the appealing aspects against persistent management deficiencies.

Nothing to write home about

Pros

I think the individual units themselves in this apartment are nice, but the building has a weird vibe. Otherwise it’s like fine

Cons

Neighbors are loud at all hours, people smoke weed and cigarettes indoors, no one picks up after their dogs outside, the interior hallways are stained with dog pee. Laundry machines are slowly starting to be replaced but have been out of commission for 6mo or more, and they cost way too much ($3.75 per wash and dry). Electricity bills are also baffling, like we don’t even use the thermostat during the winter because our apartment is generally well insulated, yet our bills come out to $180-$200 on average because of the cost of hot water is outrageous. Amenity fees tacked on for no reason when you can’t even use the roof without fear of being attacked by mosquitos. Same with my personal balcony, except it’s FLIES. Huge flesh flies that will try to get inside even if you only crack the door. I haven’t seen roaches yet but people are starting to complain about them. Also the sauna is on the app Sniffies (google it) so I will never use that ish.

Fake luxury, poor management

Pros

Close to L train for city access. Some residents are friendly. Rooftop access when it’s open. (Extra fee) Gym access when it’s maintained. (Extra fee) Delivery room + doorman (tho see cons)

Cons

- when you live with 500+ units that’s a big mix of personalities and a variety of social skills (is eye contact a thing of the past?!), some residents have required a call to the police for mental health checks. - Theft within building - random trespassing for photo shoots - laundry room not maintained properly, so machines all break at the same time, then takes a long time to fix them individually - roach infestation that’s not managed - rat inside lobby - fake amenities for display only - exterior doors not cleaned in 3+ years - doorman is responsible for both package room and front desk so there’s a lot of random ppl that can come in when they’re in the package room. No one mans the back doors, so we have ppl with mental health issues coming in. Packages stolen. Laundry stolen. - there was a report of a baby lamb being stored in the pet room for a non-resident - gym isn’t maintained properly nor quickly - lights dimmed out in the garage (safety issue for long time)

Advice to the owners

Increase staff at desk, increase management, take ownership of your failures, be proactive in communication re residents issues rather than pawning it off to the super with “submit a ticket”, actually fix or keep the ticket open if it’s not fixed…leads to multiple tickets for same issue that’s not fixed (ie burden is on residents to keep up with issue rather than issue going into a visible cue for resolution. So then ticket system become invalidated.
