Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews for buildings managed by Elizabeth Markowitz reveal a mixed management experience. Tenants appreciate the presence of a live-in super who is helpful and available for maintenance and package assistance. Cleanliness and garbage management are generally good, and buildings are located in desirable neighborhoods with a strong community feel. However, pest control remains a significant, often unresolved issue with persistent roach and rodent problems. Noise levels and heating quality vary, with some units experiencing street noise and radiator troubles. Communication with the landlord can be inconsistent, sometimes disorganized or unresponsive, but some tenants note improvement with a more responsive management approach.

Pros

It was great to have a live in super and he was helpful in that he always received our packages and helped with maintenance needs. The hallways in the building were regularly cleaned. We never went without heat or hot water. The landlord was not communicative (did not have email) and was really disorganized - one time I ran into him on the stairs of the building and he asked me if I was moving out next month when I had about six months left on my lease.

Cons

The building had a terrible roach problem that was not well managed at all - whenever we went to complain to the super we could see a long list of other units that had already complained about this problem and it remained unaddressed. They would send an exterminator every so often but it wasn't effective. It is an old building with radiators so it was always very hot inside in the winter and the radiators made loud noises. There were a couple times when the hot water stopped working for a few days. The block can be loud at night sometimes especially in the summer, but I did not necessarily feel like this was a negative - it had a nice community feeling.

Nice location, decent building

Pros

Great location, beautiful pre-war unit, in-building super, thick walls

Cons

Excessive street noise/music (so loud the walls shook); came home a number of times to find the super urinating on the sidewalk, fully exposed; roaches and mice; very small rooms
