Decent Building but be Careful of Who Owns the Unit

Cons:
Didn't take me long to (c) openigloo figure out I was living (c) openigloo in an illegally converted apartment (c) openigloo - a one bedroom turned (c) openigloo to three, different leases for (c) openigloo each room. A neighbor even (c) openigloo told me the unit isn't (c) openigloo supposed to be a 3 (c) openigloo bedroom. No information was ever (c) openigloo given about how to contact (c) openigloo building management or who they (c) openigloo even are. "Landlord" probably provided (c) openigloo fake lease and will gaslight (c) openigloo you if you bring up (c) openigloo a problem. Black mold and (c) openigloo pests in apartment, intercom doesn't (c) openigloo work, roach infestation in laundry (c) openigloo room, dirty and cheap appliances, (c) openigloo just so overpriced for such (c) openigloo horrible living conditions.
Advice to owner:
Stop being so greedy

Cheap and utilitarian. Friendly neighbors, (c) openigloo and close to lots of (c) openigloo good Chinatown eats/markets.
Cons:
Definitely an older building. Less (c) openigloo accommodating to new renters.

Quiet respectful neighbors. Water was (c) openigloo always hot. Heat was always (c) openigloo working. Some members of management (c) openigloo were perfectly nice

Our apartment (and others) had (c) openigloo a roast infestation for the (c) openigloo entirety of our lease (2 (c) openigloo years). They did very little (c) openigloo about it, had to basically (c) openigloo beg for pest control to (c) openigloo which they eventually gave us (c) openigloo roach gel and told us (c) openigloo to apply it rather than (c) openigloo pay for an exterminator to (c) openigloo do it. Wasn’t until I (c) openigloo reported them to 311 that (c) openigloo I finally got an exterminator (c) openigloo to visit one time, which (c) openigloo barely helped the problem. Owners (c) openigloo overcharged us for first year (c) openigloo and claimed not to realize (c) openigloo until we finally caught it (c) openigloo in our lease. Trash room (c) openigloo was poorly kept and attracted (c) openigloo mice and roaches, and the (c) openigloo whole building had a really (c) openigloo weird smell to it. Also, (c) openigloo we couldn’t control the heat (c) openigloo in our unit whatsoever, so (c) openigloo it was extremely hot whenever (c) openigloo they had the heat turned (c) openigloo on (so October to may), (c) openigloo we constantly had to keep (c) openigloo our windows open even in (c) openigloo 15 degree weather.

Care about cleanliness?

Pros:
Management is super responsive. A (c) openigloo handy man would always come (c) openigloo to fix any issue same (c) openigloo day if within business hours (c) openigloo or within 24 hours. There’s (c) openigloo no live in super but (c) openigloo honestly work gets done much (c) openigloo faster regardless. They’re also not (c) openigloo picky about what they’re responsible (c) openigloo to repair. Management is very (c) openigloo fair and lenient overall. Stairwell (c) openigloo is very large which makes (c) openigloo moving furniture in and out (c) openigloo easier. Quality of the apartment (c) openigloo (appliances, wood work, etc) was (c) openigloo high. Also there are fire (c) openigloo alarms in the hallway’s and (c) openigloo stairwells which is great. I’m (c) openigloo not sure what code is (c) openigloo for this but my other (c) openigloo buildings in the city did (c) openigloo not have fire alarms outside (c) openigloo of the apartments. I would (c) openigloo still be living at this (c) openigloo apartment if I hadn’t decided (c) openigloo to move to a one (c) openigloo bedroom and no longer have (c) openigloo roommates. Management was very understanding (c) openigloo and allowed me to break (c) openigloo my lease early with forfeit (c) openigloo of the security deposit rather (c) openigloo than making me pay additional (c) openigloo months rent or find replacement. (c) openigloo No other charges were made.
Cons:
The trash is kept in (c) openigloo the lobby of the building (c) openigloo so you’re always greeted with (c) openigloo piles of garbage and smells (c) openigloo when you come home at (c) openigloo the end of the day. (c) openigloo It’s maintained regularly but still (c) openigloo builds up quickly. The building (c) openigloo also has no buzzer which (c) openigloo can be a real pain (c) openigloo for getting packages and having (c) openigloo guests over. There were one (c) openigloo or two instances when we (c) openigloo did not have heat during (c) openigloo winter months but I believe (c) openigloo it was an issue of (c) openigloo the city’s local infrastructure rather (c) openigloo than the building. 
Advice to owner:
Have trash kept in the court yard and have a simple buzzer system installed.

hallways, elevator, and stairwell were (c) openigloo the dirtiest i’ve ever seen. heat (c) openigloo is incredibly hot. right next to (c) openigloo manhattan bridge/train very loud. tenants would (c) openigloo normally stare and give un-approving (c) openigloo looks. this building is infested with (c) openigloo roaches and rats elevator is normally (c) openigloo broken and people get trapped (c) openigloo inside. tenants smoke in stairwell no window (c) openigloo in kitchen no living room

fix the elevator and hire pest control and cleaners
