Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant reviews reveal that buildings managed by Jerry Edelman struggle with poor heating systems, pest infestations, and lack of proper insulation. Many renters express dissatisfaction with the management’s slow or negligent responsiveness to repair requests and maintenance issues, including heating and pest control. Garbage management receives mixed feedback, with some locations rated better than others. While some buildings have favorable locations and nice neighbors, overall residents find management confrontational, unprofessional, and ineffective, often requiring external intervention to address problems. Long-term tenants report treatment disparity compared to new renters, and there are complaints regarding illegal renovations and disregard for tenant comfort.

Don't rent here No Heat, No insulation, Can hear Everything

Pros

Just the location, that's about it.

Cons

So here goes. There is NO heat in the entire building, no it's not that the landlord doesn't turn it on, it's that the building literally doesn't have a heating system, So YOU the tenant are responsible for heating your own apt with a heater that YOU pay for to power. there is also no air conditioning and it gets freaking hot! So you also have to pay to run your own ac. The building is dirty and full of rodents and roaches, there's a restaurant on the bottom floor, and that doesn't help the situation with the pests, there is NO insulation in any of the apts so you can hear everything, I can hear my neighbors phone ring in my apt and when they are intimate. also, they just finished renovating two apts, 3E and 2W, 3E was a rent-controlled unit where the previous renter only paid $50 a month and 2W was a rent-regulated apt where the rent was below 1k both renters were kicked out unlawfully and where great people. They also did a scumbag move and demoltioned of the two apts with NO Permits not giving a fuck about the rest of the tenants in the building and any health concerns that may have impacted them with air quality or quality of life, since they started construction at 7am which is also illegal. im pretty sure they will try and hike up the rent to market, I hope no one moves in, the management company run by Scumbag Jerry Edelmen and his family suck. they renovated these empty apts with no problem yet tenants who live here already have collapsing floors, slanted bathroom floors, leaks, bad windows etc and they never do anything. The super is a nice guy who does his best to clean and do the garbage, the neighbors are cool and make no fuss. everyone does their part to keep things nice and clean and the lady on the first floor takes good care of a little yard by cleaning it and planting flowers. so to anyone thinking of renting here DONT. Not only do they treat tenants like shit once they move in, but they treat the tenants who have been here for decades like shit also. No one has ever stayed more than 2 years in any of the new apts that they renovated (4E) because it sucks, so BE WARNED

Advice to the owners

Be nice to those who have been here for decades, its not our fault we are rent stable. we deserve new apts and all the things the new apts have

It is what it is.

Pros

The location of the building was pretty much the only pro, it was close to church, hardware store, grocery stores, supermarket, public transportation, schools.

Cons

Management does nothing to actually fix any problems that arise unless you get the city involved. The walls were so thin I could hear the neighbors in bed & when they’d watch a movie, their music, couldn’t find a good spot to hang on the walls because it would go right through the “wall”. The RODENTS! My goodness, the rodents, the mouses would at times be roaming the hallways, cockroaches all the time no matter the cleanliness, the exterminator was useless. Management was also extremely rude for no reason aside from their power trip I’m guessing. Horrible.

Advice to the owners

Take care of your building, invest in better materials and products when you do replace something and take an anger management class and etiquette class to learn how to speak to tenants who would pay you.
