Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for buildings managed by STEVEN VEKSLER reveals significant dissatisfaction regarding maintenance and management. Residents report persistent issues with poor upkeep, outdated infrastructure, ineffective heating, excessive noise, and inadequate cleanliness. Garbage management and pest control are notably subpar, contributing to unhealthy living conditions. Tenants express frustration over unresponsiveness and a lack of genuine care from management, citing delays, temporary fixes, and a dismissive attitude toward complaints. Favoritism and safety hazards also detract from the living experience. Overall, renters strongly advise improvements in long-term repairs, proactive maintenance, and respectful communication to foster a safe and comfortable environment.

Poor Maintenance and Communication

Pros

Most repairs were temporary fixes or patch jobs, so the same problems often returned.

Cons

• Poor maintenance – Common areas and apartments were not properly maintained. • Recurring issues – Same problems came back due to temporary patchwork repairs. • Unreliable management – Promises to fix issues were often delayed or not fulfilled. • Outdated infrastructure – Plumbing, heating, or electrical systems were old and prone to failure. • Cleanliness concerns – Hallways, stairwells, or shared spaces were not regularly cleaned. • Neglected amenities – Backyard access appeared to be granted selectively, with certain tenants favored over others. • Safety hazards – Broken locks, poor lighting, or unsafe conditions left unresolved. • Lack of preventative care – Problems only addressed after tenants complained instead of being prevented. • Noise issues – Loud drifting at the nearby mall occurred almost every night, making it difficult to sleep and creating a terrible living experience. • Uncomfortable winters – For families with children, winters were the worst due to constant drafts throughout the apartment. • Hostile attitude – On multiple occasions, the landlord stated that if tenants were unhappy with the conditions, they could cancel the lease at any time. • Unhealthy conditions – The amount of rot present was excessive and posed serious health concerns. • Overall neglect – The landlord and their partners showed no concern for the living conditions or the appearance of the building.

Advice to the owners

Invest in proper, long-term repairs rather than quick patches, and address the underlying causes of recurring problems. Improve building cleanliness, safety, and infrastructure to create a healthy environment for tenants. Eliminate unhealthy conditions such as rot, and ensure all amenities are accessible to everyone without favoritism. Learn how to treat people with respect — if you have no tenants, you have no business. Treat concerns seriously and without hostility, understanding that retaining residents depends on providing a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained home.

Terrible Landlord - Does not want to fix anything just collects no accommodations. Disgusting way of communicating with no respect to tenants. Selfish and Greedy! Cheapskate Unit- Freezing Cold, Cheap Fixtures, Wall Cracks, Terrible Smell, Always Dark no Lights! Disgusting Backyard, 0 amenities Stay away from this place at all cost! Find an owner that cares for their tenants. Price you pay here are not worth it.
