Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant feedback regarding buildings managed by Miriam Shasho reveals considerable challenges with responsiveness and maintenance. Many report delays in repairs, poor communication, and slow or inadequate responses to heating, pest, and safety issues, with some mentioning unaddressed rodents, mold, and cold apartments. Garbage management and cleanliness are frequently criticized, and noise problems from neighbors and construction are common. Reports of unsafe or neglected conditions, including unauthorized renovations and accessibility problems, are noted. While some tenants appreciate building character and location, overall management is viewed as unprofessional and inattentive to tenant needs, discouraging long-term residency and tenant trust.

simple and nice

Pros

Lots of character with brick walls and wood panels, good location, only 16 units

Cons

expensive for a studio. Very noisy on Flatbush Avenue. Mice. No AC

RUN away, do not walk

Pros

Proximity to park

Cons

Landlord is often unresponsive, employs a super who is verbally abusive to tenants. There is no management company to handle issues that arise on weekends, and super will only work M-F 9-5. Repairs take 3-4x as long as they should, and there is no compensation for the days the apartment is not fully habitable. There is also a man who frequently sleeps in the stairwell and has been aggressive towards tenants. He smokes in the building and leaves his belongings blocking people's paths. The landlord is aware and does nothing. Previously there was a homeless man living at the top of the stairs who left urine and feces on the landing; the landlord was aware and still allowed this man to stay for years. Tenants have taken the landlord to court and won damages, but landlord still finds it easier to pay fines that actually repair issues. Hot water goes out a few times a year, sometimes for a day and sometimes for over a week. There are rodents and mold, and several neighbors have told me about major leaks being left unaddressed for years until the issues become structural.

Advice to the owners

What does it matter, he'll only pay attention if it's flagged to him in a lawsuit.
