Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews for buildings managed by John Watson reveal a mixed management experience. Many tenants praise the on-site staff, doormen, and supers for being attentive and responsive, which contributes to a good living environment in well-maintained buildings. However, some reviews highlight serious concerns including poor management communication, delayed repairs, noisy surroundings, and rent hikes that do not match building conditions. Garbage management and heating systems receive varied feedback, indicating inconsistencies across properties. Noise from busy streets is a common issue. Overall, while the buildings offer solid space and good service at times, renters should be prepared for variable owner responsiveness and occasional maintenance challenges.

Nightmare management company

Pros

Great building staff and doormen.

Cons

The management company is an absolute nightmare, raising rent at the max amount year-over-year despite EXTREMELY loud and disruptive construction and lack of communication involving MAJOR repairs. For instance, it took months to get my floor replaced after a major leak left warped boards jutting feet in the air.

Advice to the owners

Your prices should reflect the reality of the building and your responsiveness to the renters.

The worst building & management company I’ve seen in 15 yrs

Pros

I’d be hard-pressed to think of the benefits of this building or the management company.

Cons

First rule of moving to NYC. Don’t lease with Solil or Jane Goldman’s firm. They are both incredibly difficult to deal with, disorganized, don’t do what they said and agreed they would do, and don’t uphold their end of the bargain. We have lived in NYC for 10+ years and this is by far and away the worst landlord we have ever dealt with. Here are a few other points: -Windows are old and drafty -Incredibly noisy on 2nd Avenue. You hear EVERYTHING. -The elevator frequently breaks down -No trash or recycling on the floor—you have to wait for a long time to go to the basement

Advice to the owners

Run a good business where you respect and do the right thing by your tenants and customers
