Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants report mixed experiences with Steven Katz's managed buildings. Positive aspects include generally solid building structures, clean and renovated units, friendly supers, and well-located neighborhoods with good water pressure. However, pest issues, especially with mice and roaches, are recurrent and often poorly addressed. Garbage management and common area maintenance vary, with some complaints about dirty hallways and insufficient upkeep. Heating problems and sporadic responsiveness from management are also highlighted, with some tenants noting delays or inadequate problem resolution. Overall, management responsiveness and pest control need significant improvement to enhance tenant satisfaction across these properties.

Apartment overrun with MICE, pissing and shitting disease vectors everywhere

Pros

The building is solidly constructed and doesn't fall apart, I guess.

Cons

They've been letting the apartment overrun with MICE for over a year. They are pissing and shitting in our bags of rice, in our kitchen cabinets, in our pots and pans. I'm pretty sure half the stomach issues I've been having is a result of the mice pooping all over the apartment. The most they do is send an exterminator every month, who spends less than a minute and doesn't care about his job, and even though it's not working *at all*, and despite repeated emails and calls, they refuse to send anyone who is an actual competent professional. There are holes under the sink and they have the audacity to tell US to "plug the holes" ourselves. No, it is the OWNER'S job to do basic, legally mandated maintenance! We tenants pay rent, we don't do free labor for *your* property.

Nice building and location, heat and hot water issues

Pros

Great location, clean building, generally well-maintained, nice interiors. Management responded quickly to address the easy-to-fix issues. No issues with pests.

Cons

During late Winter / early Spring, the heat would repeatedly turn off over the weekend, in violation of NYC Heat Law. Management was unresponsive despite many requests to address this issue. Shortage of hot water in the shower was often an issue.
