Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant reviews for Yosi Cohen's buildings present a mixed picture of management and living experiences. Positives include well-maintained, clean buildings, good amenities, and responsive superintendents. Some locations offer excellent pest control and quiet, private units in desirable neighborhoods. However, management responsiveness varies widely, with tenants often citing poor communication, slow or unhelpful service, and aggressive tactics such as unfair security deposit withholding and inflated charges. Noise issues, problematic pest control in some buildings, and occasionally rude or unprofessional office staff further reflect management inconsistencies. While many recommend these buildings for their condition and location, caution is advised regarding management's approach to tenant relations and deposit returns.

Good but pricey

Pros

Good amenities, good location, units feel very private and are well designed.

Cons

If you have loud neighbors you'll definitely know, crying kids, loud phone calls etc.

DO NOT rent if you want your security deposit back

Pros

Building is clean and well kept. Appliances are modern and management will generally resolve issues promptly.

Cons

They will try to scrape every penny from you. First red flag was they advertised the unit as heat included but this was a lie and in the end we were paying for heating through our energy bill as each apartment has an HVAC unit. Second red flag was when one of the knobs in our kitchen stove popped off randomly one day, and we asked maintenance to help fix it and they tried to charge us close to $30 for a knob! My roommate and I managed to fix it ourselves since it was just not inserted all the way, but the suggestion that fixing a knob should cost that much was insane. And finally the biggest red flag was when we moved into the apartment, there were scratches all over the floor (normal wear and tear) from the previous tenant. On top of that the apartment was dirty even though we were told the apartment was going to be professionally cleaned before move in and the air filter on the HVAC unit was so filthy it looked like had never been changed. We took photos just in case but we never made a fuss about it during our time there since it was nothing major and we cleaned the apartment ourselves and replaced the HVAC filter ourselves. Come time to move out, when we are doing our inspection, we are told that we would be charged a cleaning fee and on top of that they are charging us for the damages to the floor. We went back and forth with them explaining that the floor “damages”, which were normal wear and tear, are from the previous tenants and even showed proof of the pictures we took. They also tried to tell us we left the apartment dirty and did not change the HVAC unit filter hence the reason for the cleaning fee, even though we made sure to clean the apartment thoroughly before they inspected it. Because of these supposed issues, they ended up withholding a significant portion of our security deposit. We tried resolving with management over email and were ignored and when I called their office to try and resolve they were extremely disrespectful and hung up on me. The apartment looks nice on paper but management are money hungry and will find any excuse to take more money from you.

Advice to the owners

Learn to be respectful when dealing with your tenants and settling disputes or one day you will end up having to settle in front of a judge.
