Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for Howard Katz-managed buildings reveals mixed experiences. While some appreciate the clean, well-maintained apartments with friendly supers and good neighborhood safety, several reviews highlight persistent issues with pest control, including roach and mice infestations, often poorly handled by management. Responsiveness to maintenance problems, such as leaks and heat or hot water failures, is inconsistent, with some renters noting slow or inadequate responses. Garbage management and hallway cleanliness also draw criticism. Rent hikes and misleading communication regarding pest presence are concerns raised by tenants. Overall, management shows care in some aspects but lacks consistency and timeliness in addressing critical tenant issues.

Great small apartment with one draw back

Pros

The rooms were very big which is great for a roommate situation. It was well maintained didn’t have roaches or rats.

Cons

My room was dealing with a constant leak during heavy rain and the management did not take proper action or take my request seriously. There was water in the walls because of this. They also raised the rent by a lot and now the apartments are going for a price that definitely does not match the space.

Apartment overrun with MICE, pissing and shitting disease vectors everywhere

Pros

The building is solidly constructed and doesn't fall apart, I guess.

Cons

They've been letting the apartment overrun with MICE for over a year. They are pissing and shitting in our bags of rice, in our kitchen cabinets, in our pots and pans. I'm pretty sure half the stomach issues I've been having is a result of the mice pooping all over the apartment. The most they do is send an exterminator every month, who spends less than a minute and doesn't care about his job, and even though it's not working *at all*, and despite repeated emails and calls, they refuse to send anyone who is an actual competent professional. There are holes under the sink and they have the audacity to tell US to "plug the holes" ourselves. No, it is the OWNER'S job to do basic, legally mandated maintenance! We tenants pay rent, we don't do free labor for *your* property.
