Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews of buildings managed by Donald Hastings indicate significant dissatisfaction among tenants regarding management responsiveness and maintenance issues. Many residents describe persistent problems with pest control, cleanliness, and heating, alongside unmanageable noise levels. Despite the favorable relationships among neighbors, the general tone suggests that the management company is overwhelmed and unresponsive to urgent requests, leading to long wait times for necessary repairs. While some tenants appreciate the building's location and amenities, the recurring complaints about management's lack of accountability raise substantial concerns for prospective renters. Overall, potential tenants should weigh these factors heavily before considering a lease.

Reviews

Former tenant·just now

Incompetent management company

Pros

Kind people who have lived in the building for many years

Cons

A&E Real Estate are incredibly lazy and incompetent building managers who will happily ignore tenants as much as they can to avoid doing any work to fix maintenance or pest issues. They outsource their staff overseas so it's impossible to actually get ahold of anyone at the company. Our unit had an active ceiling leak for months and we had to threaten to take them to housing court before they finally paid attention and fixed it. There were may other maintenance issues that we never got fixed because it would have been too much work to get A&E to respond to us. When we renewed our lease, one of their staff members forgot to ever finish the paperwork and we didn't get a signed and completed lease until over a year later, at which point we were backcharged for the rent they forgot to charge us. They are disorganized and use the number of units they manage as an excuse. Avoid renting from them at all costs.

Advice to the owners

You should be ashamed of the low quality of your work. Start taking more responsibility and pride in what you do. Managing people's homes is a very important job and you fail miserably.

place of nightmares management didn’t care

Pros

there are some lovely neighbors and it’s a nice location, easy access to prospect park, botanic gardens, etc. the super Raul is very helpful but can only do so much when backed by a terrible management company

Cons

the management company was literally voted the worst in all of New York City and they earn their title regularly. Me and my neighbors both had giant holes in our ceiling and they went weeks without replying, leaks, mold, pipes that are disintegrating (we had plumbers tell us they’re most often at buildings owned by this management company) roaches and the like everywhere everywhere everywhere, a pest guy comes every few weeks and it barely makes a difference, buzzer disconnected, water damage in the lights, no working smoke detector need I go on

Advice to the owners

listen to your tenants? actually respond to emails? the hell?
