Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant reviews for buildings managed by Herbert Donner reflect a mixed management experience. Strengths include generally clean properties with attentive and friendly superintendents, well-kept common areas, and helpful building staff. Many appreciate spacious layouts and nice neighborhood locations. However, recurring issues impact tenant satisfaction: poor owner responsiveness, persistent pest infestations (especially cockroaches), thin walls causing noise disturbances, heating problems in colder months, and lack of modern conveniences such as online rent payment portals. Some residents express concern over rent increases and non-renewal notices with short relocation periods. Overall, maintenance staff is praised, but management communication and tenant relations often fall short.

Freezing, Thin Walls

Pros

The neighborhood (Jackson Heights) is lovely. The building itself is clean enough.

Cons

The walls are paper thin. So it gets *freezing* during the winter months - my bedroom was literally in the 50s at night for weeks. And management declined to fix it. For the same reason, you can hear *everything* from the neighbors - upstairs, to your side, even downstairs neighbors. Expect to never have quiet.

Advice to the owners

Turn up the heaters and install soundproofing. Or just install insulation.

Good apartment, great neighbors, mid pest control

Pros

Spacious apartment, great maintenance staff, proximity to Prospect Park

Cons

Market rate apartment with frequent rent increases, semi-responsive property management, poor pest control
