Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Buildings managed by David Jacobson in Manhattan’s East Village generally have historic charm and convenient locations with good neighbors, but renters frequently report significant management issues. Common complaints include poor responsiveness from management, ongoing pest infestations, unreliable heating and water services, and safety hazards like collapsing ceilings and malfunctioning doors. Garbage management and cleanliness vary widely, with some buildings maintained better than others. Tenants also face noise disturbances and package theft. While some tenants appreciate the community atmosphere and location, many advise improvements in maintenance, pest control, and communication to enhance tenant safety and satisfaction under the current management.

Reviews

Former tenant·10 minutes ago

Not great, but not as bad as the reviews say. Great post grad place.

Pros

Great location Very little noise Exposed brick Old building with historic charm

Cons

Stolen packages (happened twice in 2 years) Got roaches a few times (maybe 2 times in my 2 years living there) We once got jammed in the building and couldn’t get out in the morning when I was on my way to work

Advice to the owners

Have pest control once per month, do a better job responding to emails. It’s an old building so it’s not unheard of to get rodents a few times.

Needs reno but great location!

Pros

Great location and easy access to grocery stores and the L train/busses. Everything you could need is walking distance

Cons

The apartments are old, dark and need renovations. Overpriced compared to other options in the east village. Management team is quick to answer the phone, but getting someone to the apartment when there’s an issue takes time. But they are very kind and easy to work with!
