Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant feedback for Daniel Hochberg's buildings reveals a mixed management record. On the positive side, maintenance staff are often praised for prompt repairs, and some apartments offer modern finishes and convenient amenities like virtual doormen and laundry facilities. However, persistent issues include poor responsiveness to tenant communication, inadequate pest control, and safety concerns linked to problematic neighboring businesses. Noise from neighbors and building security lapses, including package theft and break-ins, are notable problems. Several renters highlight cleanliness deficits and insufficient move-in guidance. Overall, management tends to be uneven with room for improvement in tenant relations, security, and clearer communication.

Nice apartments, on the worst block in Chelsea

Pros

New apartment Reasonable pricing The supers are quick/great

Cons

- 21st and 8th is a warzone. The deli downstairs has shady personel selling drugs, blasting music, and crazies yelling throughout the night and threatening violence. Police are there regularly and don't do anything, it's unsafe and every so often there's an issue with someone getting in the building. The deli staff is in on it somehow I'm convinced and often see employees trading cash with the rabble-rousers. Seriously this is the building in the photo: https://chelseacommunitynews.com/2024/06/17/officers-often-assigned-to-problematic-corner-transferred-council-member-bottcher-convenes-with-city-agencies-nypd-at-21st-8th/ - Trash room is gross, when the door gets left open by the neighbors there's rats. - Packages stolen frequently, delivery men refuse to use the mailroom despite instructions on packages.

Advice to the owners

Kick out the Deli owner on 1st floor as a tenant, he's clearly facilitating illicit activity in broad daylight

Beautiful + great experience if you're willing to put up with a few cons

Pros

- Beautiful unit with modern finishes - AC works beautifully - Elevator in building - Virtual doorman system works great - Laundry/dryer combo works - Super is great - maintenance requests are fulfilled promptly - Great location.. A/C/E/L/1 are all very close - West side highway access easy

Cons

- Little to no move in instruction/procedure (did not know where the trash room was, package room code was not shared, courier delivery procedure, etc) - Management does not respond to emails. Calling seems to work. - Unit was "dirty" upon arrival (toenails, hair, grease, etc)... I spent around 4 hours deep cleaning before I felt comfortable.

Advice to the owners

Respond to emails, disclose more move in instruction, if you say you're going to clean the unit prior to move in, clean it. Otherwise, I've had a great experience.
