Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant reviews for Daniel Hochberg's buildings reveal a mixed management experience. Residents appreciate some responsive maintenance staff and reasonable pricing in renovated units, but consistent concerns arise about safety issues, including illicit activity near buildings, package theft, and homeless break-ins. Complaints highlight delayed and unresponsive management, poor communication especially during ownership transitions, and noise problems from neighbors. Garbage management and cleanliness generally receive average ratings, with occasional pest issues. Heating is often reliable in some units, while others suffer ongoing problems. Overall, renters should expect fluctuating management responsiveness and should be cautious about security and noise disturbances in these properties.

Nice apartments, on the worst block in Chelsea

Pros

New apartment Reasonable pricing The supers are quick/great

Cons

- 21st and 8th is a warzone. The deli downstairs has shady personel selling drugs, blasting music, and crazies yelling throughout the night and threatening violence. Police are there regularly and don't do anything, it's unsafe and every so often there's an issue with someone getting in the building. The deli staff is in on it somehow I'm convinced and often see employees trading cash with the rabble-rousers. Seriously this is the building in the photo: https://chelseacommunitynews.com/2024/06/17/officers-often-assigned-to-problematic-corner-transferred-council-member-bottcher-convenes-with-city-agencies-nypd-at-21st-8th/ - Trash room is gross, when the door gets left open by the neighbors there's rats. - Packages stolen frequently, delivery men refuse to use the mailroom despite instructions on packages.

Advice to the owners

Kick out the Deli owner on 1st floor as a tenant, he's clearly facilitating illicit activity in broad daylight EDIT May '26 -- the Deli has been removed from the 1st floor which has cleaned up the corner quite a bit and is a reasonable improvement from when I first wrote this review
