Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants of buildings managed by Fred Shalom report mixed experiences with management. Positive remarks highlight attentive supers and quiet, safe neighborhoods with good locations and well-maintained apartments in some buildings. However, many reviews point to persistent issues such as pest infestations, cleanliness problems, outdated elevators, noise from outside, and misleading advertising about doormen presence. Responsiveness from management varies but often is perceived as slow or inadequate, leading to frustration over unresolved maintenance and pest control concerns. Improvements in communication, building upkeep, and accurate amenities representation would enhance tenant satisfaction. Prospective renters should expect a range of experiences depending on the building.

Average building but great super

Pros

Super maintains cleanliness and building is on a quiet block

Cons

Elevator frequently goes out - is also advertised with a doorman but there isn't one

Advice to the owners

Stop advertising a non-existent doorman!

Jus an OK Apartment

Pros

This building has been good, nothing great. No bugs in our unit (thank god), though I know that other units may be not be as lucky. The price is OK with it being sort of spacious, good kitchen, the location being 8ish min to a Trader Joe’s, 5 min to Grand Central, and super easy access to the east river for runs.

Cons

No window in the living room, noisy outside (traffic, sirens, construction), bathroom and bedroom doors aren’t completely sealed at the bottom, door knobs fall out easily, no closet in one of the rooms, had air circulation throughout the unit.

Advice to the owners

Fix the doors, don’t just paint over everything
