Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants of buildings managed by Herbert Hirsch appreciate the prime Manhattan locations and occasionally responsive management. However, multiple reviews cite persistent cleanliness issues in common areas, frequent pest problems, and slow maintenance responses—especially regarding heating and appliances. Package theft and security concerns are common, and some tenants report neglected hallways and a lack of consistent garbage management. While neighbors are mostly friendly, noise levels vary. Rent is noted as relatively low, though some feel it’s not justified given the building conditions. Overall, renters recommend improvements in building upkeep, pest control, and management responsiveness to enhance livability.

Loved our time

Pros

Interior of our apartment was always clean because we kept it that way never saw roaches or pests (except the occasional bug). Honestly pretty responsive from the property managers and low rent. Actually really enjoyed living here for the most part!

Cons

Dead roaches in the hallway, though it’s gotten better and didn’t really affect me since they weren’t in my apartment. Neighbors can be inconsiderate leaving things in the hallway during move out and it won’t get cleaned up unless you ask someone to do it.

Amazing location outweighs cons of apartment

Pros

The location is great, with Trader Joe’s and Target just a few blocks west AND east. Apartment was on ground floor but quiet. Has high ceilings so made space feeler bigger than it was.

Cons

Appliances were quite old and management can take awhile to respond to maintenance requests. Front door buzzer is broken 75% of the time. Building generally is older.
