Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants renting buildings managed by Simon Kaufman report mixed experiences with management responsiveness, often citing slow or unhelpful responses to maintenance issues. Common complaints include unresolved pest problems, inconsistent heating, flooding, broken appliances, and poor upkeep of common areas like rooftops and basements. Garbage management and cleanliness vary widely across properties. Despite these challenges, some buildings benefit from good locations, spacious units, and respectful neighbors, occasionally with decent management responsiveness. Issues with noise, neighbor quality, and building infrastructure are reported, along with concerns about retention of security deposits. Improvements in communication, timely repairs, and tenant consideration are commonly advised.

Unresponsive Management Co.

Pros

Great location, spacious backyard (a lot of work to maintain, fyi), great community and atmosphere in the neighborhood

Cons

Management took ages to respond to maintenance tickets. Tenants really had to call the office frequently to get anything fixed. Consistent internet issues with Optimum since the wiring was old.

Advice to the owners

Allow Verizon of Spectrum to lay the necessary wiring in the building for better internet access. Higher responsiveness to tickets

Cool but thin apartment

Pros

Easy to get to laundry, lots of space and not too many units in the building so it’s not overly loud as far as people coming in and out

Cons

The neighbors are awful lol. Got accused of stealing packages just because I live on the first floor. Also, the doors slam obnoxiously loud for no reason so you’ll get woken up by any discreet sound. Management took days to fix an issue and when they do come, it’s like putting a band-aid over a pothole.

Advice to the owners

Quiet your doors, and fix your appliances
