Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant reviews of buildings managed by Melvin Metz reveal a mixed management experience. Residents praise the responsive superintendents and convenient, central locations, especially in Manhattan’s East Village and Lower East Side. However, cleanliness and pest control are recurring concerns, with multiple reports of roaches and mice. Maintenance and infrastructure issues persist, including noisy heating systems, weak security, and occasional water problems. Noise levels vary widely, often affected by busy streets and neighborhood bars. While management responsiveness is often appreciated, some renters express frustration over rent hikes and insufficient building upkeep. Tenants suggest better pest control, enhanced security, and more consistent maintenance for improved living conditions.

Loudest pipes from hell

Pros

Great location, responsive management and super

Cons

The steam pipes are extremely loud due to infrastructural issues to the point of not being able to sleep through the entire winter. And the building owners are still raising my rent by almost 10%. I’m moving out despite all the good things.

Ehh it was okay

Pros

Very central location, super was usually very responsive, no pest issues, good water pressure

Cons

Didn’t feel very secure (randoms hanging out on the stairwell, stolen packages), one of the rooms had a criminally small window
