Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenants of buildings managed by STEVEN KURLANDER appreciate the prime location, especially for Columbia students, and often praise the responsive and helpful superintendents. However, common issues include chronic elevator breakdowns, frequent package theft, pest infestations, and inadequate or slow management responses. Safety concerns like harassment and unauthorized occupants have been reported, alongside outdated facilities with poor maintenance follow-through. While neighbors and quietness are generally satisfactory, the management’s inconsistency in addressing critical problems negatively impacts tenant experience. Prospective renters should expect well-located buildings but should temper expectations regarding management effectiveness and building upkeep.

Reviews

Former tenant·10 minutes ago

Enjoyed my time here

Pros

Close to 1 train, close-ish to C train, good grocery options, safe, quiet, clean

Cons

Occasionally saw a cockroach, bedroom got really hot from pipe so AC unit was a must, some package theft

Advice to the owners

Overall had a good experience, maybe just need to work on building access/package theft

Former tenant·7 months ago

Live elsewhere if you are student

Pros

Good location near campus, can be spacious (tho some apartments are arbitrarily divided for new bedrooms)

Cons

Rude management, constant roach infestation, and constant package theft Had a black mold infestation in the bathroom that management took weeks to fix and only painted over the mold spores
