Ok building , bad management

Pros

We were happy enough here. Great balcony space. Our apartment faced away from Flatbush so we didn’t have to worry about noise, but I’ve heard that the apartments that look out to Flatbush are extremely loud.

Cons

Management is annoying and will try to squeeze you for every dollar. They do not treat tenants like humans, they treat them like customers. Emails from management will be condescending in tone if not threatening. *Current* super is curt and rude. (Not Benny — Benny is the best!) . If you put in a service request you’ll end up with a bill so we didn’t even bother trying to get them to fix anything. Appliances are cheap. Floors are cheap vinyl and come up easily (which I’m sure they will charge us for out of our security deposit.) Walls are paper thin. Common areas are dirty most of the time— staircases haven’t been cleaned since we moved in 5 years ago. Washer/dryer combo unit might as well just be a washer. Gym that you have to pay for is dirty, machines that break are not replaced or fixed. They are really weird about the roof and if you want to have people over they will try to charge you >1000. Overall if the management treated its tenants like human beings that live there rather than a money making opportunity, the building would probably be much better. But that’s not what you get with this corporate management group. I guess this is the NYC renter’s life— c’est la vie. Oh and the “home care” business on the bottom floor is a scam. Does management know? Are they ignorant ? Or are they just crooked?

Advice to the owners

When you use cheap materials and buy cheap appliances, they break. I guess that’s the point? So that the tenant will pay more money to replace cheap crap? Just remember that people want to feel comfortable and safe in their own building. The way you treat tenants makes us feel like trespassers in our own building.

DECENT BUILDING BUT NEEDS WORK

Pros

•convenient location •building size/number of units •good size apartment/layout •washer/dryer in unit

Cons

•unkempt common areas •very thin walls •loud/noisy neighbors •unqualified super (currently) •cheap appliances and finishings

Advice to the owners

A more qualified super needs to be hired.
