Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Tenant reviews for buildings managed by John Furth reveal significant dissatisfaction with management and maintenance. Common concerns include unresponsive ownership, poor cleanliness, and inadequate upkeep of amenities, which often leads to frustrations regarding repairs and building conditions. While some residents appreciate community aspects and amenities, issues like dirty common areas, broken facilities, and maintenance delays overshadow these positives. Moreover, reports of unlawful behavior by management further diminish tenant approval. Prospective renters should expect an attractive community but be cautious of potential service and maintenance shortcomings.

Horrible Ownership Nice Tenants

Pros

The people who live in the building are wonderful. There is a nice sense of community where people bring packages up to others apartments and offer leftovers and lend tools etc.

Cons

The owners are the worst owners i have ever had in NYC. They never respond, they fired the old cleaning crew and replaced it with a single guy who now has to do everything in the building himself. They have done several illegal things such as threatening tenants, ignoring building wide gas leaks, leaving the front door to our build broken and unlocked. I would not recommend living in this building.

Advice to the owners

Treat your tenants like human beings. Eventually no one is going to want to live in this building if the reviews are horrible and everything is broken. People seem to move out in droves every month I do not see how you think this is sustainable.

Building Downhill After Some Years & New Mgmt

Pros

I initially really enjoyed community of neighbors in building. Lots of amenities in building (pool, gym, sauna, common area) and nice, full size, modern appliances in apt (dishwasher, oven, microwave, central A/C units). Pretty spacious bedrooms, lots of natural light. Very conveniently located close to the A/C and good restaurants.

Cons

Amenities (gym, pool, sauna, laundry) no longer maintained and overheard the broker telling prospective tenants about an increased amenity fee. Too few washers and dryers, especially since at least one usually does not work. Windows very dirty on the outside but never cleaned. Non-emergency maintenance requests never fulfilled after over a year of badgering. Emergency requests too slowly fulfilled. Several elevator outages each year, sometimes lasting a few days. Prior management was better but not great; current management does not care at all. No rent payment portal - only accepts zelle (sketch) and presumably cash and check. Lots of package theft due to no secure place for packages and lots of in and out. Building fron door frequently broken. Extremely busy and dirty sidewalk area in front of building (under LIRR). Kind but overworked superintendent.
