Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent reviews for properties managed by Rene Rivera emphasize a mixed experience among tenants. Many praise the great locations and responsive maintenance teams, highlighting reliable heat and water pressure. However, there are significant concerns regarding cleanliness, garbage management, and pest issues, with repeated mentions of cockroaches and maintenance delays. Communication from management appears problematic, with some residents feeling that their concerns are not adequately addressed. While there are good amenities and friendly neighbors, the management's approach and occasional rent hikes have garnered criticism. Overall, prospective tenants should weigh these factors carefully when considering a building managed by Rivera.

Solid Apartment, Great Location

Pros

I lived here for a short time pre-pandemic in 2019, and loved the location and the quiet, unusually large, and forested back area that I faced. Transit accessibility was fantastic, with the S shuttle across the street and the 2/3/4/5 only an 8 minute walk. Heat and water pressure were very good and reliable during the winter I spent here. I only lived here for 6-7 months, so perhaps not long enough to get a full picture of the pros and cons, but it was overall a solid experience, which is more than I can say for some of the places I've lived. Many restaurants, bars, bakeries within a 1-5 minute walk on Franklin, and of course easy walking & biking access to Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Museum, BPL, and the Botanic Garden.

Cons

At the time of my residence (2019), our floors were very warped to the point of having nails sticking up at multiple points. Floor quality can definitely be an issue in this old buildings, I don't know if it's since been fixed. Mostly good neighbors, but several extremely loud ones. Again, back in 2019, so can't speak to the present.

Cozy place with roommates

Pros

Great location. It’s right off Franklin Ave, and it’s across the street from the shuttle. The rooms varied in size. Large common areas. Heater works, hot in winter. And kind neighbors. Great rooftop with stairwell access.

Cons

I would’ve stayed but the rent increase was too much

Advice to the owners

Long-term tenants pay more than short-term. Reward reliable tenants by minimizing increases
