Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on openigloo.
Recent reviews of 196 Stanton St highlight the building's excellent rooftop with great views, modern apartments, and convenient amenities like laundry and balconies. Tenants appreciate the friendly neighbors and responsive maintenance staff. However, package theft is a frequent issue due to lack of doorman and unsecured delivery areas. Noise from rooftop parties and some inconsiderate residents is common, making it more suitable for younger, social renters. Some experience pest problems and inconsistent management responsiveness. Rent increases and occasional building maintenance delays are noted concerns. Overall, it offers good value for those prioritizing location and social atmosphere in the Lower East Side.

Great management, overall recommend
Former Tenant
Pros:
Helm Management is fair and responsive.
Cons:
Rooftop can make weekends annoying with people going up and down the elevator, but this is a pro most of the time.

Worst management I have ever experienced
Former Tenant
Pros:
Nice building and amenities
Cons:
Horrible management company. Claimed to not get my payments on time. I even hired a messenger to bring them a check to make sure they received it. Then they would “close early” and refuse to accept the check, then would charge a 100 dollar late fee for accepting the check the following day. And every week I received a 100 dollar fee on top of the original fee. Literally a late fee for the late fee 4 times a month, this went on indefinitely even though they cashed all of my rent checks and were paid in full and on time.
Advice to owner:
Stop making excuses to refuse on time payments, resulting in them being a day late so that you are able to constantly charge late fees.
