Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback on buildings managed by Barry Fishman describes a mix of positive and challenging experiences. Management generally maintains cleanliness and shows responsiveness, with attentive supers often praised for quick issue handling. Many tenants appreciate quiet, well-maintained apartments in convenient locations. However, chronic complaints include pest control issues, especially water bugs and roaches, inconsistent heating, and some maintenance delays. Several reviews mention poor treatment by certain staff members, including hostility and bullying behavior, negatively impacting tenant relations. Overall, while many tenants recommend these residences for their value and community, there is clear room for improvement in pest management, respectful communication, and maintenance consistency.

Great place to live

Pros

Great location. Apartments are spacious and cute with arched walls between rooms. The common areas are cleaned well and regularly. No pests.

Cons

Heat is central and when it's very cold in winter it can be very hot in the apartments. Obviously that's better than freezing but it's still uncomfortable.

Sparse heat, hot water but it is included in the rent

Pros

Neighbors are great, apartment is rent stabilized.

Cons

The elevator was broken every other week and was down for multiple days last year. It seems to be more reliable in the last four months. Heat is almost non-existent in the cooler months. If you complain, they'll simply put tape on your windows. I've spent more than $500 running a space heater just at night so I'm warm enough that I can sleep while buried under multiple quilts. When there is hot water at all, water temperature varies in the shower. One second the water is cold, the next it's scalding. This building was built in 1925 and there have been few updates to it. The electrical still uses fuse boxes. I can't run a heater in the bedroom and have the lights on in the bathroom. This means I can't warm up the bedroom while taking a cold shower in a cold apartment unless I take the cold shower in the dark. The building owner I've been in contact with seems responsive. The muscle who does rentals and enforcement is comparable to a rabid Rottweiler. The super floats in his own reality. If you move here, try to time washing dishes and taking a hot shower for when there is hot water. But there is no set schedule as to when you might be so fortunate. And, well, good luck with that. I hope you're happier than I am about scheduling your life around an unreliable boiler. Oh, and you expect to receive a package? UPS and FedEx were instructed by building management to deliver all of the packages to the basement where the packages are immediately locked away. Good luck getting your perishable goods before they perish. The better instructions would have been to have the delivery guys attempt to deliver packages to the apartments and then take the packages to the basement for the people who aren't home.

Advice to the owners

Hot water is necessary 24 hours a day.
