Review summary

Summarized from anonymous rental reviews on Openigloo.

Recent tenant feedback for buildings managed by Louis Galpern reveals a mixed experience. While some tenants appreciate the convenient locations and commend maintenance responsiveness on occasion, many express dissatisfaction with persistent pest problems, notably roach infestations, which are inadequately addressed. Heating systems are often reported as unreliable or insufficient, and some apartments suffer from poor layouts and infrastructure issues like weak water pressure and insufficient natural light. Noise levels and security concerns, such as shared access codes and package theft, also arise repeatedly. Management responsiveness is frequently criticized for being slow or ineffective, impacting tenant satisfaction significantly.

somehow, ended up being great

Pros

maybe i got lucky, idk. on the fifth floor (first floor is just a hallway leading to stairs), have literally zero problems with heat or water pressure (though sometimes the shower annoyingly turns cold and takes a min to get warm again), zero bugs/pests, pretty thick walls so i can't hear the neighbors, maintenance is actually super responsive, the people who maintain the building are nice. i fully expected this place to be dingy as hell. it's surprisingly nice.

Cons

the sinks are really annoyingly small in the apartment. tbh that's the only problem i've really had. also the stairs are really, really steep.

Simply, don't rent here

Pros

This is for apartment 6: As far as good things to say about this building go, there are very few if any. I think the only pro is the location. It is right in the middle of the action in LES. Close to good restaurants, trader joes/target, and a subway to get you anywhere. But the actual living in the building part is bad to the bone.

Cons

This is for apartment 6: - There is basically 15 square feet of common living space. It's a small galley kitchen big enough for a small table against the wall and two stools. And with the table in the kitchen, you couldn't fit two people shoulder-to-shoulder. If this were the only thing wrong with the apartment, fine. But it's not. - There are so many cockroaches. You would probably see anywhere from 3-8 a day-not exaggerating! In the bathroom, stove, cabinets, counters, and they made their way into the bedroom closest to the kitchen. Management was made aware of this and the response was minimal, if any. - The bathroom is so strangely organized and it's not even the worst part of the apartment (see above for that). The sink is so small. It's an open, all-tiled room. The shower head comes before the toilet, so you have to walk through the "shower" to get to the toilet. When you shower, everything in the bathroom gets wet. - There's no natural light in the common spaces or in one of the bedrooms. The only natural light comes from the bedroom at the end of the hall. When that door isn't open, the apartment is pitch black as if it's the dead of night at any time of day. - Management is terrible. They do not care about you. They just want to lock you into a lease and take your money. And will not do anything to make your experience better. - It is expensive. They are charging 3k for a 2 bedroom in these conditions.

Advice to the owners

Be honest about how terrible it is to live in your building and do not charge so much for rent.
