What does “heat + hot water included” mean on Openigloo?

It means the building is flagged as including heat and hot water for tenants. You should still confirm the exact scope in your lease (what’s included, any exceptions, and whether anything is tenant-paid).

How many buildings are on this page right now?

There are 26+ buildings showing the heat + hot water included criteria near the President St–Medgar Evers College area.

Does “included” guarantee my unit will have consistent hot water pressure and heat?

No. Included utilities do not eliminate maintenance and building operations issues. Ask the building about recent service reliability, how temperature problems are addressed, and the process for repairs.

Are there cases where a building says heat/hot water are included but tenants still pay?

Sometimes leases include conditions or exceptions (for example, specific add-ons or billing for certain usage). Review the lease language and ask the leasing office for a written breakdown of what you’re responsible for.

What should I ask at the showing or before submitting an application?

Ask: (1) how utilities are handled when units are vacant, (2) thermostat/radiator control, (3) maintenance response times for heat/hot water complaints, and (4) any seasonal rules that change coverage.

How can Openigloo help beyond the utility filter?

You can use Openigloo’s tenant Q&A and review signals (when available) to spot recurring building-level issues, then verify utility and repair expectations with the management team before committing.

What to check before choosing a building with heat and hot water included near President St-Medgar Evers College station in NYC

Expect the page to prioritize buildings with heat + hot water included; still confirm what’s covered (baseboard/radiators vs. specific systems) and any seasonal or usage rules.
Before you sign, ask how the building defines “included” on the lease, when utilities are billed, and whether there are any tenant-paid add-ons.
Check building-level details for availability so you can match lease start dates to your move-in window.
Compare total monthly cost, not just rent—parking, internet, and any tenant-paid utilities can affect affordability even when heat/hot water are included.
If you’re sensitive to temperature control, ask about thermostat access, radiator valves, and how comfort issues are handled during maintenance calls.
