Question 1

What does “good cause” mean for these NYC buildings?

Accepted Answer

It’s a tenant-protection category tied to limits on certain rent increases and non-renewals. How it affects your specific lease depends on the exact lease terms and timing, so confirm the details on the building’s page and with management.

Question 2

What does “near the QM36 bus” include on Openigloo?

Accepted Answer

It’s a location-based scope around the QM36 bus corridor. Use the building page map and address details to confirm the real walking distance and commute fit for your schedule.

Question 3

How can I use Openigloo signals to narrow down 300+ good cause buildings?

Accepted Answer

Start with the building page review signals and renter Q&A, then compare unit availability and lease terms you care about. If you see a recurring concern in Q&A, ask follow-up questions during your showing.

Question 4

Do good cause protections cover every situation in every lease?

Accepted Answer

No. Good cause is a category, but your lease and the landlord’s process still matter. Before signing, ask how renewals are handled, what changes are possible, and what documentation you’ll receive.

Question 5

What fees or extra costs should I check before applying?

Accepted Answer

Ask for the full move-in cost breakdown (deposit and any required fees), what utilities are included or separate, and any billing rules. Also confirm whether there are application fees or admin fees that aren’t reflected in asking rent.

Question 6

How do I confirm that a building actually has the unit I want?

Accepted Answer

Check the building page for current “with available apartments” information (when applicable) and confirm availability directly with management. Floor plans, exposure, and timing can vary even within the same building.

Question 7

Are the renter Q&A and review signals enough to decide?

Accepted Answer

They’re a helpful starting point, but you should still verify conditions with management and during a walk-through. Q&A can reflect past experiences that may not perfectly match the current unit or staff.
